I started the year by skiing into Siggelkov Park looking for Woodpeckers in in the northeast corner of Black Hawk County. I was rewarded with Red-bellied, Downy, Red-headed, and Hairy Woodpeckers. The best bird in the park was a Tufted Titmouse. There were holes indicating Pileated Woodpeckers are present in the park but I saw none.
We have had a group of Meadowlarks on North Elk Run Road between Dunkerton Road and Mt. Vernon Road off and on in December but today with a gusty wind and temperature of 5 I could not find them either.
