Hi,
I had the great joy of hosting the tour of the Lincoln Audubon
group, here in Ida County today. We started out in Moorehead Park
looking for the little saw-whet owl, that has been seen every day this
past week. Today, it was in hiding, there goes my guiding services
once again. Also, we tried for the Long-eared owls, and they also were
not to be found.
Next we drove over to Crawford Creek, about 8 car loads of
birders, to find the owls there. We were blessed in finding 5 long-
eared owls total, two in one location and three more in another
location at Crawford Creek, which is just a couple miles south of
Battle Creek, Iowa.
We had several Redtail hawks, one Cooper's, several pheasants, a
small flock, maybe 30 or so of cedar waxwings, robins and the best
bird of the day, one Townsend's Solitaire, found by
Shari Schwartz.
It was a great warm afternoon, and a great group of birders from
the Lincoln, Nebraska Audubon society.
Many thanks to John Carlini and Shari Schwartz for all your work,
in getting the group together. The Townsend's Solitaire was found
below the dam, on the south side of the cedars and pines
and it is a new record for Ida County.
