Members of the Iowa City Bird Club had an outing to the Quad Cities today
and can add five TUNDRA SWANS on the Illinois side below L&D 14--very close
viewing. Otherwise the gull numbers were possibly decreased from what Jim
found yesterday--the most being on the ice to the west of Credit Island
south of Davenport--all Herring or Ring-billed.
Pelicans were in good numbers everywhere. Waterfowl were in modest numbers,
mostly from Rapids City. We did not find the scoters or long-tailed
duck--the heat shimmer over the water was really difficult.

Gull numbers continue abnormally low at the Quad Cities but I did
manage a couple hundred, all Herring and Ring-billed. Oddly some
were at L&D 15 late but none in the morning.
Waterfowl were more numerous and at Rapids City, Illinois I scoped
a female? LONG-TAILED DUCK and female WHITE-WINGED SCOTER. Another
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER (black but not adult male) was distant from
Ben Butterworth Parkway.
Pelicans were in surprising numbers, ahead of schedule even though
winter prevails. Eagles continue strong.
