Stopped by cedar lake on the way back from quad cities today. At shortly before dusk there was no great black backed gull. Two young herring gulls present but nothing strikingly large or big billed.
Oddly, there was a red tailed hawk sitting among the gulls on the ice pulling the guts from a large carp. I never thought I would see that. It is possible that I missed the gull as there were a few birds I could not get a vantage of. I walked most of the trail so I feel like I covered the area well. But the lack of remaining daylight limited my ability to continue my search. Good birding. John McCecil. --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
