The Armstrong's and I encountered impressive numbers of waterfowl (mostly
geese) in Madison and Guthrie counties this morning. The Badger Creek
area hosted ~3000 Greater White-fronted Geese along with small numbers of
Snow Geese. The real show was in Guthrie County. Bays Branch had fifteen
waterfowl species with several flocks of 2-4000 Snows and White-fronts
milling around the area. We didn't even try to count the huge Snow Goose
flock that was pouring into the center of Long Pond. Unfortunately they
were out of sight after they landed. A few Ross's Geese were in both
areas. Killdeer have arrived in force in the open country and we had FOY
Song Sparrows in a few locations.
