I have a likely explanation for yesterday's strange [eBird Alert] Iowa Rare Bird Alert <daily>
which included
    Mallard (Northern)
    American Robin (Eastern)
Which had Robin and Mallard.  In both cases subspecies were indicated, and someone who has obviously looked into this before said, most sub species are flagged to prevent clutter and confusion in the general checklist. As a result it shows up on the RBA.

Good Birding,
