Waterfowl at Beaver Bottoms Wetland are thinning out, as they chase the ice north.
Today I observed Canadas, Mallard, Wood Duck, Gadwall, Northern Shovelor, Hooded Merganser, Ringneck, Bufflehead, and a few large flocks of Blue-winged Teal. Also, one Great Blue Heron. Water levels are very low, and Beaver Creek is but a trickle. If we don't receive more precipitation soon, it looks like central Iowa's drought will continue. Beaver Bottoms Wetland is a private wetland 1 1/2 miles south of Granger, in Dallas County.
