Worked on a little scouting for the Lake Manawa/Mid-American, Pottawattamie County field trip today.
Got a late start 8:10 and quit early but had a decent day anyway. 98 species for the day. Considering the lack of waterfowl, raptors, and still missing Hummingbirds it was a good day. Shorebirds were in short supply. Piping Plover 2 (MidAmerican south side entrance 2nd pond to the west) Flycatcher are catching on! Least 2 Eastern Phoebe 5 Great Creasted Flycatcher 2 Western Kingbird 1 (Lake Manawa) Eastern Kingbird Vireos are here: Yellow-throated 1 Blue-headed 1 Warbling X Red-eyed 5 All the regular swallows. Purple Martins 4 locations Turds--not many but good variety Eastern Bluebirds X Gray-cheeked 1 Swainson's 6 Wood 1 10 species of warbler Golden-winged, Palm (good for over here), and Blackpoll f. Yellow warbler and Common Yellowthroats all over Sparrows species 12 Clay-colored XXXX Lincoln's 2 Swamp 2 White-throated 3 Harris's 16 in nice grayish breeding plumage White-crowned 9 Indigo Bunting and Dicksissels were about. Lots and lots of Baltimore Orioles but dipped on the Orchard BTW--NOT one single Eurasian Tree Sparrow. Could not at least one manage to get lost over here on the western coast? -- *Paul O.
