I missed the early departure for ICBC Warbler Walk and had to go solo this morning. It was too tempting not to miss the fallout as Hickory Hill Park was teeming with warblers. I also had to "break in" a new pair of hiking boots and decided to hike to the north end of Cedar Lake, where there is a small wooded area. Highlights:
Hickory Hill Park: 15 warbler species, both expected tanagers, FOYs: Eastern Wood-Pewee, Bay-breasted Warbler Cedar Lake: an additional four species of warblers, FOYs: Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Blackpoll Warbler...but the most exciting thing was seeing a Northern Water Snake coiled up on a boulder sunning on the northeast shore not far from the trail Good migrant birding, Brandon Caswell Cedar Rapids --- This mailing list is sponsored by the Iowa Ornithologists' Union.
