Thank you all for your response and suggestions this past weekend. I
found the IOU 2 weeks ago when I saw my first Summer Tanager and Golden-winged
Warbler in my yard, both firsts for me and rare I think in Sioux County. That
inspired me to start birding in places outside of my own yard. Your help was
invaluable to me. I visited 5 of the suggested places; Water Works Park and
Saylorville Reservoir in Des Moines, and Redbird Farm, Hickory Hill Park and
Squire Point in Iowa City.
I had two first time sightings, Blue-winged Warbler and Bells Vireo,
and a first encounter, I heard 2 Cerulean Warblers but I could not find them,
also a Tufted Titmouse first time seeing in Iowa. For the weekend I found 16
Warbler species, three Vireos and was able to identify 4 flycatchers, it was a
very exciting weekend for me and I really appreciate all of you in this
community. One more thing, are there Pileated woodpeckers in Water Works park?
I am pretty sure I spooked one while I was there and it flew right in front of
me and through the trees.
Thank you
Joe Jungers
