Ed Thelen and I worked the mostly open water of West Lake Okoboji this
morning and dealt with some fog which impaired long distance viewing. We
had twenty species of waterfowl including 9 Trumpeter Swans and 1 Tundra, 2
Black Scoters, small groups of Greater Scaup and all three mergansers.
There was a second year Thayer's Gull consorting with a handful of Herring
Gulls and Ring-billed Gulls at the north end. Other open water was tough to
find and we also checked the Lake Park cemetery for crossbills with no luck.
No evidence of fresh cones on the ground either although that was tougher
since half or more of the snow from last week has melted.
