Subject: Re: [ia-bird] Possible White-tailed Kite

Relating to the white-tailed kite. I first heard about it Friday, at the
office of Hartman Reserve.

Ed, the head man told me about a lady that had seen 2 white tailed kite by New
Hartford and gave me

her name and number, Mary and Greg Love. I was reluctant because I didn't know
this lady and I

did not call her. I called her today after I had seen it today. Mary and her
husband saw 2 birds

smaller than a harrier that flew over their road. She described it as slender
built and white tail,

dark primaries and dark upper wing coverts. The black shoulder was clearly
seen. I had her

described it and it was exactly the same I had seen at Leopold. THey were seen
about 4pm and

flying like harriers, flying over grass land. THey headed West toward Wapsi
Valley school and then

turned North going towards Hwy 3. I have seen these birds a number of times in
Texas. It was

flying so low I had no trouble getting details. I don't think I can get on
list serve so that's why I'm

writing to you.

A possible White-tailed Kite has been reported from Aldo Leopold Wildlife
Area
in Bremer County. A few birders in the proximity are on their way to
look for
it and will report back if it is found. Stay tuned...
