We have been working on the next Physics release cycle in its git repository. State saving has been working there for a couple of weeks now. The saved states that the development version currently generates are a temporary format that are in the process of being replaced so we have some control over the storage format for future proofing against Box2D changes. Are you using a development version of Physics from git? An official Physics-3 will likely be released (within a few weeks I hope) including this new work.
