ENGLISH TRANSLATION FOLLOWS THE SPANISH TEXT
Hemos leído en los foros unos cuantos mensajes sobre unas elecciones
relacionadas con Sugar.
Como sucede frecuentemente, muchos hablamos, pocos entendemos y menos
preguntamos.
Alguien tiene que romper el círculo vicioso para bien de todos.
Eso es lo que trato de hacer.
No escribo entre líneas.
No imaginen cosas raras.
El que no entienda que pregunte y se abstenga de hablar hasta haber entendido.
Mucho agradecería que alguien que sepa sobre las elecciones Sugar, nos
explique a todos.
SI escriben en el idioma que se conoce como Plain English, que en algunos
países se exige en muchos documentos legales que involucran al público en
general, que significa, Inglés sin palabras técnicas, Inglés comprensible
por el público en general, y si escriben algo con largo razonable, con mucho
gusto lo traduciré al Español internacional sencillo.
Pienso que esto es lo que deseamos saber los que han expresado ideas en los
foros y yo:
1 - Breve explicación sobre los orígenes y organización básica de la
institución, que llamaré Sugar para simplificar, que está por tener
elecciones.
2 - Condiciones requeridas para ser miembro de Sugar:
2.1 - ¿Hay que saber leer, hablar, escribir en Inglés?
2.2 - ¿Hay que tener conocimientos de informática, programación,
ciencia de la computación o similar, con algún nivel mínimo?
2.3 - ¿Le interesa a Sugar tener como miembros a personas sin esos
conocimientos pero con conocimientos en otras áreas?
Me refiero muy específicamente a maestros activos en escuelas
primarias o secundarias donde se hayan distribuido computadoras a los alumnos.
2.4 - ¿Hay algún requerimiento de nacionalidad o lugar de residencia?
2.5 - ¿Hay que tener acceso físico fácil a algún lugar del mundo o se
aceptan miembros con acceso exclusivamente vía internet?
3 - ¿Qué puestos son los que se llenarán con las personas que se están por
elegir?
3.1 - Descripción de esos puestos.
¿Qué harán los elegidos cuando estén cumpliendo sus funciones?
3.2 - Requerimientos en términos de educación, diplomas u otras
calificaciones.
3.3 - Obligaciones en tiempo, en presencia física en reuniones, en
presencia vía internet.
3.4 - ¿Hay alguna condición no esencial pero sí deseable para mejorar
el futuro de Sugar?
Pienso en condiciones tales como ser maestro activo en los
lugares donde OLPC ha tenido mayor penetración?
Pienso específicamente en Uruguay, Afghanistan, tal vez
Argentina en un futuro no muy lejano, donde ya existen muchas XOs en manos de
estudiantes.
Imagino que hay urgencia en aprovecharlas al máximo.
3.5 - ¿Hay alguna compensación monetaria para esos puestos, sueldos,
viáticos o con cualquier otro nombre?
4 - Requerimientos para participar en dichas elecciones.
5 - Procedimiento para participar como candidato.
6 - Procedimiento para participar votando.
7 - Cualquier pregunta que, los que saben, piensen que es importante y que a
alguien de fuera como yo no se le ocurrió hacer.

Siento que estamos rodeados de muchísimo talento valioso pero que si no les
extendemos una invitación, clara, sincera y en voz alta, nos privaremos y
privaremos a los niños y adolescentes de los infinitos beneficios que Sugar
puede ofrecer incorporando ese talento.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF SPANISH TEXT ABOVE
We have read a few messages in the forums about certain Sugar-related elections.
As it frequently happens, many of us talk, a few understand and even fewer
ask questions.
Someone has to break this vicious circle for the benefit of all.
This is what I am trying to do.
I am not writing between lines.
Do not have any strange ideas.
If you don´t understand, please ask and abstain from talking until you
understand.
Would really appreciate it if anyone with knowledge about the Sugar forthcoming
election could explain them to the rest of us.
If you write in Plain English, the language form required in some countries
for legal documents involving the public, this is English without technical
words, using vocabulary at the level of the general public, and i f you stay
within a reasonable length, I will be pleased to translate into simple
international Spanish.
I believe this is what those who have expressed ideas in the forums and me,
wish to know:
1 - Brief explanation of the origins and organization of the entity that is
about to have some election, hereinafter called Sugar for simplicity.
2 - Conditions required to be a member of Sugar:
2.1 - Knowledge of reading, speaking or writing in English; is it a
requirement?
2.2 - Knowledge of computer systems, computer science, programming or
similar, at any specific level; is it a requirement?
2.3 - Is Sugar interested in having as members individuals without that
knowledge but with knowledge in other areas?
I am referring very specifically to teachers active in
elementary or secondary schools where computers have been distributed to
students.
2.4 - Are there any requirements relating to nationality or place of
residency?
2.5 - Is easy physical access to any specific place in the world a
requirement, or may members stay in touch with Sugar exclusively via internet?
3 - Which are the positions to be filled with those elected in the forthcoming
elections?
3.1 - Job Descriptions for those positions
What are those elected going to do once they are installed in
their positions?
3.2 - Requirements in terms of education, diplomas or other
qualifications.
3.3 - Obligations in terms of time, physical presence at meetings,
virtual presence via internet.
3.4 - Is there any condition, not required but desirable, to improve
Sugar´s future.
I am thinking of conditions, such as being active as a teacher
in those places where OLPC has more penetration?
I am thinking specifically of Uruguay, Afghanistan, maybe
Argentina in the near future, where there are already many computers in the
hands of students.
I imagine there is an urgency in taking full advantage of these
machines.
3.5 - Is there any monetary compensation associated with those
positions, salary, expense account or with any other name?
4 - Requirements to participate in those elections.
5 - Procedure to participate as a candidate.
6 - Procedure to participate as a voter.
7 - Any other question that those who know the subject, consider important,
which I have not listed here.

I have the feeling we are surrounded by plenty of valuable talent but, unless
we extend a clear, sincere invitation in loud voice, we will deny ourselves
and the children and youngsters the infinite benefits Sugar may offer after
adding that talent to its organization.
