I only just noted that this email didn't go to all of its intended recipients. Note that we had an initial discussion of this proposal at today's Sugar Oversight Board meeting (see http://meeting.sugarlabs.org/sugar-meeting/meetings/2011-01-13T20:03:31).

Hopefully I got the above adress "slabs at sl.o" right ... if not: may I ask you to forward this? I wanted to ask if I may sign the sugarlabs Memorandum Of Understanding for starting some activities here in germany. The general Idea is to provide sugar to children, parents, teachers and institutions (e.g. schools) by some kind of place to go. Every local lab will be a place, children can come to after school or for scheduled tutorials to use a "sugarized" environment. If possible i.e. if teachers or schools are ready to cooperate, homeworks or additional courses are provided by a School Server. In order to facilitate this, roadshows for parents and/or teachers are organized. A "Mobile Lab" will provide a moveable lab environment including pc's, schoolserver and (mobile) networking facilities. My first concrete project is a lab for one of the childrens hospitals of Ludwig-Maximilians-University here in Munich: Dr. von Haunersches Kinderspital. Some pc's/notebooks running sugar and a weekly tutorial for the children staying at the hospital. WLAN is already available in all rooms. So even tied to the bed children will be able to communicate to children in other rooms of the hospital. If the children are leaving they may take their USB-stick or SD-card home. On the sugar activities side I am about to program an activity to enable children to understand the principles of their therapy e.g. insuline-therapie for Type 1 Diabetes. As far as I understood to embed this to sugarlabs organization the concept of a local lab as described in the wiki would be a perfect fit. To give it the correct legal frame here in germany a non-profit association (Verein) would be the choice. The proposed name for this association is "sugarlabs Deutschland". This is where the MOU comes in place... I hope this gives you a first understanding. Do not hesitate to ask if there are open questions.
