Dear Explorationists,
It's time to have a break and refresh your knowledge on sedimentology. Go to mountain
resort at Hotel Taman Sari Sukabumi and join us on Fluvial - Deltaic Sedimentology
Workshop short weekend course on August 23-25, 2002 (Friday thru Sunday). For that
purpose, I attach some flyers for you to browse and getting listed.
If you are a manager and feel that you don't have much time to spend your weekend to
join the course, I will urge you to spread this over to your explorationists, so that
they won't miss this beautiful opportunity.
This won't be an ordinary course, because:
1. You will get lots of new ideas regarding your current exploration works,
especially if they are related to deltaic-fluvial plays. My 18 year working in Kutai
Basin, of which the 2 years also spent in South Sumatra, Central Sumatra, and East
Java basins, has documented many examples of the said sedimentology and application on
exploration, which I will intensively share with you.
2. It will be a combination between classroom presentation and field exercises
in the superb outcrops of deltaic-fluvial Gn. Walat sandstone.
3. While your exploration battery is seriously charged during the course, you
(and your family) may also relax during the weekend nights at this mountain resort.
So, you won't miss much of your weekend time with your family.
4. It will only cost 1 (one) man working day for the company (on top of the
tuition fee & transport & accommodation), because the course will be started at 8 AM
on Friday morning.
5. The previous 3 courses which were conducted at the same place in 2001 and
March 2002 received enthusiastic response from the participants.
So, better be listed as soon as possible.
Best Regards,
The Committee

Who Should Attend:
exploration geologists, development/production geologist, geophysicist, reservoir
engineers, log analyst, petrophysicist, coal geologist.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Understanding sedimentology is one of the basic requirement to a success in oil & gas
and coal exploration. Although it is hardly noticed, explorationists use lots of
sedimentological principles and concepts in their daily exploration activity, i.e.:
describing outcrop/core, interpreting logs and seismic, drawing reservoir maps and
coal distributions, and ultimately calculating reserves of hydrocarbons and coals.
This course is aimed to refresh the knowledge of basic sedimentology with special
reference to deltaic-fluvial setting; the environment of which are associated with
most of the Indonesian hydrocarbons and coals.
Back to basic - Look at the rock: is the basic philosophy of the course. No matter how
sophisticated the tools that help us (loggings, seismic, interpretation software,
etc), the success of exploration is still depend on the geologist (and geology
concepts) behind the tools. Understanding sedimentology gained from this course will
hopefully recharge the explorationist battery to keep on generating prospects (or at
least new ideas) in dealing with the materials (cuttings, core, logs, seismic) and the
tools (software's, etc).
For new recruits, this course will certainly equip them with necessary focus on
selected sedimentology knowledge to be used in the future works; while for experience
explorationists, this will refresh lots of their understanding about sedimentology,
which probably already built-in intuitively (sometimes becomes obsolete) in their
mind.
This is the fourth time that a course of this kind (classroom, outcrop and mountain
resort combination) is conducted. The previous three courses on August, October 2001
and March 2002 had received many interests and good comments (see: comments at the
end of this letter *).
Participants can choose any hotel / accommodation in the area, but it is suggested to
choose the one where the course is conducted, i.e.: Hotel Taman Sari, Sukabumi. While
seriously charge the exploration battery during the course, the participant (and
family ? ) may also refresh during the week-end nights at this mountain resort. Of
course you can also choose to go directly to the course everyday from Jakarta (2-3 hrs
drive) or Bogor (1-2 hrs drive). The course will be a combination between classroom
lecturing and exercises, and field-outcrop description.
For companies, the course will not interfere much the daily duties of the employee,
because it will be conducted during the weekend (although the company has to let them
leaving the work for full day during Friday).
Over the course the following topics will be covered in detail :
