ABSTRACT

Drilling contractors, service companies and exploration and production companies have waged war since the dawn of the industry, trying to improve performance and lower the costs of exploring for, developing and producing hydrocarbon reserves.  The usual conflict exists between cost and value, and certainly in the construction of a well bore there is both a cost and a value portion of that process.  Efficiency and cost improvements can be attained in both portions, and the one technology that is used in both is straight rotary drilling, whether directional, with air, Under balanced or otherwise.  Clearly, a method that improves drilling economics is highly desirable.

Casing Drilling™ is just such a method.  The technology permits the drilling and casing of wells simultaneously thereby at the outset saving time typically spent in tripping the drill string.  Further, when deployed in a fully evolved state, utilizing a purpose built rig and the attendant equipment, the process reduces non-productive time and can have a significant positive impact on HS&E performance.

Now a fully commercial process, Casing Drilling™ has a considerable track record of success and has proven application in almost every drilling scenario.
