About : KEM's Mine Closure, The Speaker is Dr. Arif Soeleman Siregar

ABSTRAC:
During its operation period since 1992 until 2005 , PT. Kelian
Equatorial Mining (KEM) produced an average of 14 tones of gold per year
and approximately 10 tones of silver per year as a by-product. PT Kelian
Equatorial Mining (KEM) formally ceased its production on Monday, 7
February 2005. Following cessation of its production, KEM will continue
to implement its mine closure program, such as reclamation and
rehabilitation (February 2005 2008) and sustainable monitoring (2008
2013).
Mine closure is carried out with reference to the recommendation made by
the Mine Closure Steering Committee (MCSC). The document has been
approved by the Government and is used as the basis for the
implementation of mine closure.
KEM's mine closure is implemented beyond compliance and in a
comprehensive and sustainable manner. The mine closure is implemented in
a technically, environmentally and socially thorough manner so that
sustainable benefits for the community can be achieved optimally. The
pattern of the mine closure implemented by KEM constitutes a benchmark
both in Indonesia and in the international level. It is used as a model
of business partnership for development by World Bank.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dr. Arif Soeleman Siregar is President Director PT. Kelian Equatorial
Mining, East Kalimantan Indonesia, Nature of Business : Gold Mining. In
2003 he ever became a Vice President Director, PT Rio Tinto Indonesia
Jakarta. In 2001 - 2002 as GM Industrial Mineral, Palabora Mining
Company (PMC), South Afrika, Nature of Business : Vermiculite
(Industrial Mining) & Zicronium Basic Sulpabet (ZBS), and on 1998 - 2001
as a GM Coal Chain, PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), East Kalimantan, Nature
of Business : Coal Mining. He's graduated from Mining and Metallurgy
Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) at 1980. In 1992 he continuing at
University of Queensland (UQ), Brisbane, Australia, and in 1998
graduated from Harvard Business School, Boston, USA
