A new report, entitled "Facts and Trends to 2050: Energy and Climate Change", was released by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) at the recent World Energy Congress in Sydney, Australia. The report estimates global energy demand to double or triple by 2050 as developing countries' economies grow. This huge energy use increase will have a massive impact on atmospheric greenhouse gas concentration and climate change. The report sums up Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) findings, as well as discussing energy technological development and meeting future needs. The authors discuss various energy scenarios for 2050, the related carbon emissions, and options for emission reduction.
