Thomson Financial News Indonesia awards 5 oil-and-gas contracts to Eni, other investors 05.23.08, 2:13 AM ET JAKARTA (Thomson Financial) - The Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said on Friday it has awarded five oil-and-gas exploration and development contracts to four individual companies, including Italy's Eni unit Eni Indonesia, and a consortium. The contracts were awarded by direct offers. Under these arrangements, interested parties may propose to bid for a block, which is automatically awarded if no other investors expressed an interest in the same site. Eni Indonesia Ltd was awarded the contract for the West Timor block, said Luluk Sumiarso, director general for oil and gas at the ministry. U.S.-based Murphy Overseas Ventures was awarded the contract for the South Barito block in South Kalimantan, while Swedish oil-and-gas firm Lundin Oil and Gas B.V. was given the Rangkas block in West Java. A consortium comprised of CNOOC (nyse: CEO - news - people ) South East Asia Ltd. and Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn Bhd was awarded the contract for South East Palung Aru block, while Genting Oil and Gas Ltd was given the Kasuri block in Papua. Sumiarso said the contractors must pay a total of $24.4 million in signature bonus, or advance payment for the rights to develop their allocated exploration areas.
