Bapak/Ibu Anggota HAGI/IAGI, HAGI menjadwalkan untuk mengadakan regular short course sbb. : Dates : 15th - 17th April 2009 (3 days course) Instructors : Awang H. Satyana (BPMIGAS) Venue : Senggigi Beach Hotel, Lombok Fee : USD 1,650 (HAGI/IAGI Member); USD 1,750 (Non-HAGI/IAGI Member ) (Including hotel 4 nights 5 days, Coffee break & Lunch, Course Material, Course Kit, Certificate) COURSE OVERVIEW Today, people use concepts of petroleum system in evaluating petroleum potential and exploration risks involved in area of investigation. We have seen that these concepts been successfully employed. Using this approach, new petroleum accumulations have been discovered and significant reduction of exploration risks has taken place. Petroleum system concept was developed through petroleum geochemistry. The ability to identify petroleum system uniquely depends on geochemical techniques needed such as to map hydrocarbon shows and to carry out petroleum-petroleum and petroleum-source rock correlations. However, generally, one with strong interest and training in petroleum geochemistry is seldom. Most petroleum geologists have known a lot about reservoirs and traps, little about seals, and virtually nothing about source rocks and migration. This contrasts with the knowledge that if we know where oils came from and how and to where they migrate, we can better predict where they will be found. Petroleum geochemistry could then be used to upgrade areas in which to concentrate exploration activity, thereby reducing risk. Accordingly, petroleum geochemistry should not be under-employed let alone ignored. In this three day course, essential concepts of petroleum geochemistry will be introduced. Methods usually used in petroleum geochemistry such as for interpreting source facies, kerogen types, source maturation, oil classification, genetic gas types and many other things will be discussed. Participants will also be introduced to biomarkers, how to interpret and use them for exploration and production. Migration concepts that are too much oversimplified so far by many petroleum geologists will be elaborated in this course. Reservoir geochemistry, which can give solutions for field development and fluid problems, will be discussed. Gas geochemistry will also be presented in detail considering that gas resources are getting important. Theoretical bakground of petroleum geochemistry concepts, exercises using methods, and presentation of real cases of petroleum geochemistry in Indonesian basins will form a backbone of the course. The instructor has 12 year experience of petroleum geochemistry combining activities of learning, applying, publishing and teaching. The instructor has 19 year experience on petroleum geology of Indonesia, making him has a good synthesis of ability of combining petroleum geochemistry and petroleum geology. The instructor is working for BPMIGAS, this enables him to see many areas in Indonesia operated by many companies. How each company in Indonesia use petroleum geochemistry therefore, will be an interesting discussion during the course. COURSE OUTLINE Introduction .. What is petroleum geochemistry ? .. He has been working for oil industry for 19 years. He started his career in 1990 as Exploration Geologist for PERTAMINA. This lasted 10 years until 2000 working in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua areas. From 2000 to 2002, he was assigned as Sr. Regional Geologist of PERTAMINA Directorate of Management of Production Sharing. In end of 2002, he joined BPMIGAS (Government of Indonesia's Executive Agency for Upstream Oil and Gas Business) as Head of Geology for South Sumatra and Java Exploration until 2004, and as Head of Geology for Kalimantan and Eastern Indonesia Exploration since 2005. Awang has actively serviced international and national geoscience societies by contributing papers, articles, keynote talks, lectures and courses. There have been totally 147 publications (56 papers for international and national conferences, 25 articles for journals, 6 chapters for books, 28 invited presentations and keynote talks, 23 guest lectures for universities and schools, and 9 course manuals for professionals). Some of his papers were given awards by the professional organizations. He was assigned in 2005 by the AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) as the Associate Editor of the AAPG Bulletin for period of 2006-2007. In 2008, "HAGI Award" was awarded to Awang by the HAGI as an appreciation for his great contribution and dedication to geosciences. Awang is an active member of IAGI (Indonesian Association of Geologists), IPA (Indonesian Petroleum Association), HAGI (Indonesian Association of Geophysicists), an associate member of AAPG, FOSI (Indonesian Sedimentologists Forum), and GSA (Geological Society of America).
