I have successfully read a BLOB with a custom type handler which uses an InputStream. It basically calls ResultSet.getBlob, then getBinaryStream, then writes stream's content to a byte array. I can post the code, but it' quite trivial. It would be nice if this functionality could be integrated into the stock BLOB mapper. A property could be used to switch between getBinaryStream and getBytes implementation. BTW: Hibernate implemented its BLOB mapper in a similar fashion.
