Hi there,

Yep! generating end-user documentation in several formats (PDF, HTML, XML, CHM, JavaHelp...) seems to be a good way…

You could have a look at this following OS:

http://aurigadoc.sourceforge.net

Openoffice already supports Docbook format:

http://xml.openoffice.org/xmerge/docbook/UserGuide.html

but with a limited set of Docbook tags:

http://xml.openoffice.org/xmerge/docbook/DocBookTags.html

Cheers,

Vincent

Objet : Documentation format

The recent thread on the korean version of the docs has me wondering about our documentation.

While OpenOffice is a decent tool (and even free), I think it would be useful to use a documentation format that would also allow us to generate pdf or html documentation that can be either incorporated into the site, or viewed on-line.

Looking at the docs for the CS side of iBATIS, it looks like it is all docbook.

I think we should look at moving the existing docs into that format, and reworking our build to include them.

I found a list of docbook tools here:

There are several (free and commercial) products that provide WYSIWYG editing, so I am wondering what our CS counterparts are using.

Larry
