I just picked that particular post in the thread as it provided a nice point for jumping in. :-) To Gilles, re: "don't want the end user play with the config file." - I definitely understand that desire. To Gilles, re: "We are open to all possiblities so that each one can use as it seems best for him" - And I'm very glad that is clearly the case. So far I'm super-impressed with ibatis, as are a number of other developers on staff who are excited for the day when we can go past experimenting with it and actually bring it into the mainline. I just figured that in the meantime I'd toss another viewpoint onto the table. To Ron, re: "Its a pain to track down the one or two files that changed and remember to promote those. With embedded resource, everything gets packaged and promoted in one swoop." - I hear ya there. We bring our revision control system and issue tracking to bear when that issue raises its head, but I am willing to admit that even then it is sometimes convenient to publish the whole thing as one package. The difference for us, however, is that embedded resources take that choice away and trigger a whole slew of processes, the reduction of which provided a major attraction to ibatis in the first place. Thanks to everyone for the quick and thoughtful replies. If there were to be another thing about the ibatis project that so far has been a joy to witness it is the general pleasantry that seems to prevail on the mailing lists. Jeremy
