iBatis is not a stranger for "big players" (e.g.: IBM)
In fact they (IBM) produced docs about integration with their products.

Not to say that IBM supports iBatis, but they certainly find it not "totally unsuitable" for their architecture.

Short of long: I would recommend usage of vendor supported spec based ejb conatiner for applications needing persistance or transaction management. Eventually these will be simplified (if there is fear of complexity....thats an issue the specs and the commercial vendors like IBM will definitely answer).
