This is a bit of a resubmit to the correct list. Back in May Andy Lutomirski submitted a patch to add mic mute button functionality to thinkpad acpi. It appears that the only issue is that it was submitted to the wrong list, and got caught up in kernel.org/Alsa discussion of standardize the naming scheme.
The current naming scheme in the patch fits with the naming scheme of all other thinkpad-acpi leds. I believe the kernel.org common naming scheme discussion is a completely different topic. This will allow userspace to turn the led on and off and fit in line with the current Thinkpad led enablement.
