I should probably note this was going from kernel 3.12.1 to 3.13.4. Honestly it's probably not a big deal for me, as I just noticed that the xbacklight and sysfs interfaces provided by the intel drivers seem to be working for me. For Ubuntu / gnome / Any full fledged DE users they probably wouldn't even notice because they have things mapped to the XF86Backlight* keys already.
