Judith, Use a dataclas with Dynamic Volume Count and it will do the trick.

In our OS/390 2.9 system (main production) we have SRS installed and that takes care of this problem. We don�t want to install SRS in our new system (Z/OS 1.4); therefore I need to make this process work without it. I thought I would be able to do this by making them SMS managed instead of letting them go to the public volumes. I have the temp datasets SMS managed now, but I still can�t do this. It looks like that during the allocation of temporary datasets, the ACS routines don�t start with the Dataclas and jump right to the Storageclas. I tried to specify Dataclas= in the JCL, but the dataset will not take it. I have tested if it is even possible for a temp dataset to span Volumes without SRS, by coding vol-cnt in the JCL, and it worked and spanned over 3 Volumes. I would like to automate this, but if it doesn�t take the Dataclas I am not sure on how to do this. Any ideas would be appreciated.
