Have you looked at REVIEW from the files 134 and 135 of the CBT tapes?

SMF (fullscreen browse of smf data)
FIND foo.dataset ALL (show all strings 'foo.dataset')
or
FINDSMF 42 (show next type 42 record)
or
FINDSMF 15 ALL (show all type 15 records)
There are a number of SMF related programs on the CBT tapes.
(I have no experience with any except the REVIEW program.)
