Subject: Get rid of EXPDT in catalog and format-1 DSCB?

Hi,

We have (some) datasets with an expiration date (EXPDT), but we want to
remove those EXPDTs in order to have the datasets managed by ONLY the
MGMTCLASS 'Retention Limit'.
I know the rules by which 'Retention Limit' *CAN* co-exist with & work
together with the 'Expiration Attributes' RETPD or EXPDT. (They are
explained in SC26-7402-02 zOS V1R5.0 DFSMSdfp Storage Administration
Reference on page 68-69.)
So we might play with 'Retention Limit', but we can't & don't want to do
so. Changing the MGMTCLASS 'Retention Limit' might/would have to much
impact on the other (non-EXPDT) datasets. Changing such a MGTCLASS
attribute is absolutely forbidden. By death penalty. :(
*
With IDCAMS ALTER TO(date)|FOR(days) you can 'alter' the retention period
(of course!) & hence update the expiration date in the catalog, and, for
SMS-managed data sets, change the expiration date in the format-1 DSCB;
but you can *NOT* 'delete' it as far as I know.
At least not via an officially supported way.
*
Do you know (other) means to get rid of the expiration date in catalogs or
format-1 DSCBs?
Jan
