Shameless plug for my daughter's session at Boston: Session Title: The Relationship Between College, Mainframes and Assembler Language. Oh Wait, There Isn't One!
Session Abstract: As a recent computer science graduate from the University of Arizona, I was not surprised by what I learned, but by what I didn't learn. Unfortunately, there seems to be a strong stigma associated with the terms "mainframe" and "assembler language." I have been a fan of assembler language for years and understand the power of and need for mainframes, but trying to convince anyone in college of this is nearly impossible. I will share my experiences with you, give an overview of what is being done about this lack of interest, and share some ideas I have to possibly increase awareness and make the mainframe and assembler language "dinosaurs" more appealing to today's generation of programmers. http://shareweb.share.org/SCHEDULE/sess105a.nsf/845c1a92314a75c686256e900041afe0/8e17a6ff4947f327882570050018f1c5?OpenDocument Tom Harper Neon Enterprise Software, Inc.
