Thank you for you reply Bruce.  I assumed that once I
had the format, the data would also be available.  We
plan on using both attributes and data.  I wanted to
emphasis the VSAM aspect of this as oppossed to the
sequential or volume backups.

No, our "DRP" site is not commercial.  There is a
specific application that is desired.  We are trying
to put together a cost-benefit analysis to show that
the cost of a "single" custom built DRP solution,
would "cost" not much more than "proper" generic DRP
solution.  So I have been asked to look at particular
solutions and give an estimate of what it would take. 
I don't have the "big" picture assignment, just one of
part of a little picture.

from the DSS backup if you can't restore the data? 
Your DR site must not be a commercial site, as I
expect all commercial DR sites to be licensed for all
the backup software commonly required by their
customers.  But if your backups are DSS, how are you
going to restore anything at all, including system
volumes?
