Bob,

Hardware based tape encryption has been available since the days of the
3490.  I wonder why it hasn't caught on more.

According to your metric, probably 99.9% of companies worldwide are "grossly
irresponsible". I'm not defending them, I'm just saying that in 2005 almost
no one encrypts tapes.
