DISCLAIMER: Speaking for myself now. Double and triple check.

>>Doesn't this purchase now give IBM *four* VTAM session manager
offerings?
>>* InterSession (from Isogon)
>>* SuperSession (from Candle)
>>* IBM Session Manager for z/OS (rebranded Macro4 Tubes)
>>* NetView Access Services
1>We've been told that NetView Access Services is
1>"functionally stable" and will not be enhanced, that IBM Session Manager
was
1>the way of the future. However, that was before Candle and Isogon.

No word yet on InterSession, but I'm sure IBM management will clarify that
issue pretty quickly. However, to my knowledge IBM is encouraging
SuperSession shops to switch to Session Manager at a business-appropriate
pace. And having those four codebases means the developers can probably
cherrypick the best parts as new versions come out. The Candle
acquisition was primarily for OMEGAMON, and the Isogon acquisition is
primarily for their software auditing, licensing, and contract tools. IMHO
it's all very good news because it means IBM is totally serious about the
z/OS software business. And good for z/OS software startups again because
there are buyers (plural) if you come up with a useful idea.

2>Looks like this could raise some anti-trust eyebrows at DOJ. Nothing new
2>for IBM.

I doubt it. There are competitive 3270 session switchers. CA-TPX and
Net-Pass come to mind.

Personally I think the Isogon acquisition is SPIFFY! :-)
