Actually, both the INREC statement section and OUTREC statement section of
"z/OS DFSORT Application
Programming Guide" say to see the OUTFIL OUTREC parameter section:

"See p,m,f,to under OUTFIL OUTREC for details".

We put all of the gory details in OUTFIL OUTREC section to avoid
redundancy.

The OUTFIL OUTREC section runs for about two pages and is very specific in
its description of
"p,m,f,to". It starts out with:

"specifies that a converted numeric input field is to appear in the
reformatted OUTFIL output record. You can convert BI, FI, PD, PD0, ZD, CSF,
FS, UFF, SFF, DC1, DC2, DC3, DE1, DE2, DE3, DT1, DT2, DT3, TC1, TC2, TC3,
TC4, TE1, TE2, TE3, TE4, TM1, TM2, TM3, or TM4 fields to BI, FI, PD, ZD,
ZDF, ZDC, or CSF/FS fields."

and goes on to provide the full syntax and details.
