Is it possible, without encountering 'negative consequences', to descend from an upstairs apartment to the street below by merely stepping off the balcony? We've all seen this in movies: a delivery truck from the Fluff-o-matic mattress factory is passing by on its way to the Sleep-and-Pay outlet. You land squarely atop the stack of mattresses and loll comfortably as the truck rumbles on.
Even it it's possible, is it the preferred method of descent, considering the chances of the truck's not being in exactly the right spot at the right moment? I don't know z/VM, but I seriously doubt that is has the capability to masquerade as an ARCHLVL 1 machine. On a 2064, you will find yourself paps deep in ARCHLVL 2 whether you're ready for it or not. I don't think you have any realistic choice but to install Bimodal Accommodation. Fortunately, 1.4 is the last release for which this feature is available. We converted fifteen LPARs from ARCHLVL 1 to 2 using Bimodal to allow us to move forward one system at a time. We encountered problems that ended up taking months to fix. I cannot recommend strongly enough that you install Bimodal now. It has no effect when running on ARCHLVL 1 hardware. It may save your life on a 2064. . . .
