What "inter record gap"? Remember that 99.999% of all DASD out there is
really FBA behind the scenes. There is no "inter record gap" unless you
are still running SLEDs.

Also remember that anybody using the STK DASD that does that funny
mapping (log structured?) is going to be surprised that the backend may
still have the raw data on it because rewriting a track allocates a new
physical track and does not overwrite the old data.
