I remember once when I had to write a program to convert from Card-Image EBCDIC (ie: The list of what holes are punched) into Internal EBCDIC (which bits are on) due to a need to read a card in Column Binary Mode and convert it to what would have been read if the normal read command had been used. The cards were punched with both Column Binary and standard EBCDIC columns and were being read though >> Similarly, one of our fast-lane system programmers walked by the "card station" as the CE and analyst were having a heated discussion about card edges, maintenance agreements and parental lineage..so he says "quit screwin' around, just read them in upside down" and proceeded to write the translation program on his Krystal napkin. Anyway saved registration and was a rising star ...Dropped dead at lunch a couple years ago at ripe old age of 52. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
