Multiple concurrent strings of sequential access from random locations
is an obvious example of VSAM functionality missing from BDAM.

Indeed, and in the cases that I've looked at BDAM doesn't look so hot;
in fact, even BSAM (with MACRF=RP) is sometimes better.
