Speaking of parallel sysplex, I just set one up for testing purposes
using z/VM's "Coupling Facility Simulation" feature which neither uses
nor supports real links to real coupling facilities. Though it loads and
uses the CFCC LIC from the hardware, z/VM prevents CFCC from spinning
without requiring use of the kludgey, stupid, and slow DYNDISP setting.

C'mon Ed, this hasn't been an issue since z/OS 1.2.
Certainly on z/900 and 990 - I'll check the z/890 we have running a CF LPAR,
but I'd be *mighty* surprised if it wasn't true there as well.

Not sure what you mean by "... this hasn't been an issue since z/OS ...". AFAIK, I have configured the _one and only way_ to have a parallel sysplex of z/VM guests. (This isn't new. The CF Simulation support appeared years ago in VM/ESA 2.3. It's just the first time I tried using it.) And, because of the way z/VM "fools" the CFCC code, I can probably set up dozens of test parallel sysplexes before my system starts to run out of gas. I'm impressed by it, even if you're not.
