What is the easiest way to download to disk ALL the TAPE datasets? (i

How about IEHMOVE and the COPY VOLUME control card?
IEHMOVE is said to be slow, though I don't know that IEBGENER
is that fast, but it would, at least, be one job step
saving much in step initialization.

Glen, its been a while but IIRC the tape must have been created with
IEHMOVE. Many moons ago (30+ years) we used to re-organize our source
libraries copying to tape and then back to disk (this was with MFT so
you know it was SLOW). I don't think IBM touched IEHMOVE since then. I
am sure there were small bug fixes but no rewrite. The "header(not
label)" contains IEHMOVE information. I don't recall of the information
ever being externalized. I am sure that having the source fiche would
have helped.
I wrote a front end to one of the utilities that changed the IEHMOVE to
IEBCOPY and the jobs ran a LOT faster.
