I have been away from Operating System Support for a LONG time and
have just gotten a job where I am now doing (among other things)
Catalog Support.
I have to move the catalog entries of datasets whose Highlevel Index
currently reside in the Master Catalogs of 3 separate systems to a
shared User Catalog. The 3 separate instances of the Catalog Entries
are not in sync (ie: The datasets are not in all 3 catalogs although
all cases where a dataset resides in more than one catalog is DOES
reference the same file version).
To correct this problem, the intent is to uncatalog the files from
the Master Catalogs, create an alias to a User Catalog in the Master
Catalogs, and then do one mass recatalog to the new User Catalog.
Since the files are not normally in use, there is no scheduling issue
for doing this but I have run into one issue that I need to resolve.
Some of the files are PDSEs which I have the impression must be
cataloged at all times (ie: I can not just uncatalog the file and
then later recatalog it as I can do with standard PDSs and sequential
files). How do I work around this issue - ie: Must I do deletes and
redefines of the Libraries around the Catalog Move (having saved the
library contents for restoration to the new copy of the Library) or
can I just do a rename to another High Level Index to "protect the
library" and then restore the name after the definition of the Alias
and UCAT?
If I can go the rename route, I assume that doing the Uncatalog from
the other Master Catalogs will work even though the Library is no
longer there under its original name and that the 2nd rename will
return access to it.
Thanks.
