IBM stopped manufacturing 3390 disks about five years ago, I believe, which was much more recent than decades.

according to the IBM sales manual, the 3390 disks were withdrawn from marketing in 1996 (April or December, depending on model) so almost a decade. Service is still avaialble except that 3390-1 service is withdrawn 12/2005 (probably because almost no one bought any -1s.)

3990 control units were also withdrawn from marketing in 1996, except for the 3990-6 which was withdrawn in 2000
