Steve,
Have a look at
IBM z/OS Consolidated Service Test: FMIDs Installed in the CST ...
http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/zos/servicetst/fmids.html
It gives you at least the FMIDs of the most important functions in a z/OS
shop.
And it's free, you don't need to be entitled
;)
In the APARs you have the RETAIN (!) release number(s) and the corresponding
PTF
number for that release of the apar. And like somebody already mentioned,
the RETAIN release of a PTF corresponds to the last 3 digits of the FMID.
Yeah, I know, you don't have the first 4 characters of the FMID. But start
your own archive of FMIDs, these are quite stable, it's the last 3
characters which change (with each release).
The PSP bucket would be a great help too, but it needs entitlement!
Look at the "PREreq"..... at the end in the cover letter of a PTF,
indicating the FMID to what that PTF is applicable. Don't know
unfortunately if looking at a PTF cover letter needs you to be entitled.
You might also try entering the fmid in:
https://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/zseries.srchBroker
Can't tell you if it may help, I never tried it myself, while I use CST /
PCR / PSP.
And why not try 'googling' with the fmid? You may have hits.
Maybe somebody else on the list knows where Program Directories are
online??? They contain the fmids of a product too.

Jan,
Thanks, the link is a helpful reference.
