In the mid-1970's, at a university, the availability target for mainframes was 
95%.
When I started, in 1981, it was 98.5%.
In 1991, it was 99.9%
When I left IGS, we had a target of ā€œ5-9'sā€ (99.999%): 3 min 23 seconds of 
downtime a year.
