One annoying issue with SMS is that you can no longer use the old trick
of replacing a broken dataset by uncataloging the old and cataloging the
new.

At least, I have not figured out a way to replace a broken system
dataset. Personally, I avoid all of the IPL related datasets be they on
the res volumes or not. By 'IPL datasets' I mean all those needed to get
a base functionality: JES, TSO, VTAM, TCPIP, etc, or those that require
an IPL to replace.

But that's just my $0.02

HTH and good luck.

Hi Folks

We are looking to place all out VTAM datasets under SMS control, not the
DSN's on the IPL volume, has anyone done this and not gone forward with
it?.

Best regards
