Some folks might, others do not. DSF doesn't restore though so the analogy
seems to miss. (See below)

You might want to run it by your security/risk folks first. If *I* were a
suspicious type ("Which one of my enemies said I was??") I might worry that
a disgruntled 3rd shift or weekend operator might (a) dump a bunch of
customer data (names, SSNs, addresses) onto a few tapes (using my
production control emergency userid) then (b) IPL your standalone DSF pack
to wipe out the SMF audit trace, and then (c) quit in a huff. Or more
likely stop showing up and let you figure it out after a few days (giving
me, D.O., a 24+ hour head start with my purloined data). If any of those
customers might have been a California resident your company would have to
report the loss (eventually)... which doesn't look so good.

I used to always keep an ICKDSF cartridge tape in my sock drawer for
emergency purposes. It was off-site and ready when I was (unless perhaps I
was wearing sandals). I don't have that responsibility now so I leave that
worry to others.

You don't need ICKADSF on a disk drive on your running site, do you?
You're more likely to want it at your DR site... where your online ICKADSF
won't yet be restored, right?
