My own rule for this is that as long as I am using the code for myself, or for the company that claims ownership to all code I write, and it is not distributed to other companies, then who cares? You already plan to write and maintain the code yourself, so you're aware of the pitfalls of keeping up with IBM's random code/format/link/security changes.
