needed a special Selectric ball and key tops to program in APL, or read
the code. Selectrics were fun to watch when typing fast. The ball
would spin and tilt just like those gut-spewing rides at traveling
carnivals.

I don't remember the metallurgy. Seems like antimony and a few
others. It had good print, but the ball itself was brittle
and fragile. If dropped would break. After long use the flip
down cap would spring open in the middle of a line and shoot the
ball out or down into the platen well.
