I can't speak for Ed, but I wouldn't even consider it. I'm guessing he
wouldn't either. I think it's great that Mary wants to learn about this
stuff, so the best we can do is try to help her avoid the scars we all

Your advice (try a non-authorized PC first) is good. Whoever else
suggested reading Bob Shannon's share pitch was also on the money. The
good news (Mary) is that once you've mastered the PC setup stuff you can
do really wonderful stuff without raising a sweat.

PCs are slick and quite powerful. They've been around a long, long time.
(I remember working with non-stacking PCs under MVS/SP 1.3.5. Ugh!
Things are *much* better now.)
There are hundreds (thousands?) of awesome things you can do with PC
routines. Why anyone would ever consider front-ending MVS storage
management services as a "learning exercise" is beyond me. Perhaps she's
looking for an incentive to learn about Stand-Alone dump. :-)
